Chris and I met in 7th grade- Mrs. Horton’s 7th hour science class in fact. I like to think that the alphabet brought us together: Abbott + Balcom means I got to sit next to him in alphabetical order AND our lockers were near each other (I was #1 and he was #14). This led to the highlight of my each and every day- walking back from class with Chris. We would hold hands and everyone could see and I couldn’t be happier! We wrote notes, and I kept them. We talked on the phone each night, and I never wanted to hang up. I wrote “Erin Balcom” on my folders, never realizing that someday that would come true.
When we moved away after that year- my heart broke. I wrote to you and wore your football jersey on the plane. I lied and told my mom it was because I was cold, but it was really because I wanted to be close to you. I lost that jersey over the years, but you tracked down a replica and had your last name printed across the back- just like the original. Trust me, I won’t lose it, or you, again!
Sometimes when I look at you, I still see that 14 year old with the piercing deep eyes- and something inside me melts all over again. I love you!
